He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Pappas; and his sister, Katherine John Pappas. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Kalafatis Pappas; and brothers, Anthony John Pappas (Ruth), and William John Pappas (Janet); and sister, Stella Pappas Provel (Christopher); and numerous loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26, at Bliley&#8217;s &#8211; Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 27, at Sts. Constantine &amp; Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, followed by interment at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Ave., Richmond, Va. 23221.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>WATERS, Jeannette P. &#8220;Jean,&#8221; 77, of Amelia County, devoted wife, mother and &#8220;Grammy,&#8221; went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Skippers, Va. to the late Thomas A. and Lila Williams Powell of Emporia, Va. She graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education from Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va. She met her husband, John P. &#8220;Jack&#8221; of Norfolk, Va. in 1954 and after a brief courtship they were married on January 1, 1955. Jean taught at elementary schools in Norfolk, Suffolk and Fairfax Counties before moving to the Richmond area in 1972, where she worked at Dominion Resources in their Human Relations department until her retirement in 1994. She is survived by her husband of 55 years and one son, John T. Waters of Powhatan; five grandchildren, Sean R., LeeAnn H., John J., Zachery A. and Savannah L.; sisters, Ellen P. Schmidt (Dale) of DeBary, Fla. and Inez P. Sipe (David) of North Port, Fla.; a brother, George A. Powell of Emporia, Va.; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, and a number of cousins. Jean was a school-teacher by heart and loved all of her students. She enjoyed very much her family and being with friends. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bliley&#8217;s &#8211; Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to and one hour following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>BENNETTS, Naomi P., of Richmond, born on July 17, 1912, widow of George A. Bennetts, passed away December 27, 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Joan Clarke of Staunton, Va., Geni Bennetts of Napa Valley, Calif., Darleyne Moore of Williamsburg, Va.; three grandsons, Robert, Stephen, and Andrew Clarke; two nieces, Judy Reeve and Millie Clark; nephew, Clifford Sayles; great-niece, Cristen Palmour; and five great-grandsons. She was a dedicated and active church member of Patterson Avenue Seventh-day Adventist Church. She played piano for the Cradle Roll Dept. for 40+ years. She was a volunteer at Chippenham Hospital for 18 years. Her family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Bliley&#8217;s &#8211; Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road, where a celebration of her life will be held 12 noon Wednesday, December 30, 2009. She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, George Robert Barkley Jr.; her sons, Joshua Webb Barkley and Matthew Harrison Barkley; a brother, William Brent Lovern and his wife, Karen Sellers Lovern; two nephews, William and Grayson Lovern; a sister-in-law, Diana June Messer; two nieces, Jenni Shodt and Abbi Messer; and many loving friends. Debbie was a member of the Tuckahoe Women&#8217;s Club and the outgoing president of the University of Richmond Chapel Guild. She was also a member of Third Presbyterian Church and Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Kilmarnock, Va. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Cannon Chapel at the University of Richmond. The family will receive friends after the service at a reception at Third Presbyterian Church. Matthews and his wife, Gayle W. Matthews; grandsons, Christopher R. Matthews and Brandon W. Matthews, all of Chesapeake, Va. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Gladys P. Matthews. Mr. Matthews served his country in the 8th Air Force during WW II. He was a very valued member of Glen Allen Masonic Lodge, #131 A.F. &amp; A.M. and Glen Allen American Legion Post 244, a founding member of Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, and a longtime member of Lakeside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bliley&#8217;s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., with a Masonic Service beginning at 6 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m.Tuesday at Lakeside Baptist Church, 7401 Woodman Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228.
