WATERS, Jeannette P. “Jean,” 77, of Amelia County, devoted wife, mother and “Grammy,” went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Skippers, Va. to the late Thomas A. and Lila Williams Powell of Emporia, Va. She graduated with a B.S. Degree in Education from Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va. She met her husband, John P. “Jack” of Norfolk, Va. in 1954 and after a brief courtship they were married on January 1, 1955. Jean taught at elementary schools in Norfolk, Suffolk and Fairfax Counties before moving to the Richmond area in 1972, where she worked at Dominion Resources in their Human Relations department until her retirement in 1994. She is survived by her husband of 55 years and one son, John T. Waters of Powhatan; five grandchildren, Sean R., LeeAnn H., John J., Zachery A. and Savannah L.; sisters, Ellen P. Schmidt (Dale) of DeBary, Fla. and Inez P. Sipe (David) of North Port, Fla.; a brother, George A. Powell of Emporia, Va.; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews. She is also survived by aunts and uncles, and a number of cousins. Jean was a school-teacher by heart and loved all of her students. She enjoyed very much her family and being with friends. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bliley’s – Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road, Richmond, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to and one hour following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her honor be made to the American Cancer Society
