Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Bust in Richmond

On Thursday, Aug. 19, Special Investigations detectives conducted a traffic stop on a known drug target, James A. Thomas, in the 3900 block of Hull Street.

As they approached Thomas’ car, detectives saw narcotics in plain view. After arresting him, they found the below items inside the vehicle:

  • *one stolen handgun;
  • *one ounce of marijuana;
  • *75 Ecstasy pills;
  • *30 Oxycodone pills;
  • *two grams of heroin; and,
  • *$600 in cash.

James A. Thomas, 32, of the 5500 block of Handel Court in Chesterfield, has been charged with multiple drug offenses. His wife, LaTanya D. Thomas, 34, of the same address, was also in the car and has been charged with drug offenses as well.

James Thomas is an eight-time convicted felon and LaTanya Thomas is a six-time convicted felon. Because of their histories, investigators searched their home with the assistance of Chesterfield County narcotics investigators.

There, detectives found:

  • *one high point rifle;
  • *two revolvers;
  • *two pounds of marijuana;
  • *packaging materials;
  • *documents; and,
  • *$5,200 in cash.

James Thomas has been charged with:

  • *possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I substance (Oxycodone)
  • *possession with intent to distribute Ecstasy
  • *possession a firearm by a convicted felon
  • * possession a firearm with drugs
  • *possession of marijuana
  • *being a habitual offender
  • *possession of heroin

LaTanya Thomas has been charged with:

  • *possession with intent to distribute Ecstasy
  • *possession of marijuana
